In August, KUTRRH officially unveiled 20 new advanced dialysis machines. The new machines are an additional capacity to KUTRRH’s nephrology care. The additional capacity is a significant boost to Renal Care at KUTRRH from the current dialysis of 100 sessions per day to more than 200 sessions daily.

NICU Staff Celebrate World Neonatal Nurses Day 2023. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) observed the World Neonatal Nurses which falls on the 15th of August every year. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a unit that deals with medical concerns related to newborn babies. The NICU unit provides care for babies who are born prematurely, have a low birth weight or who are sick or at risk. NICU nurses combine treatment of the neonates with counselling of their mothers. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) consists of a multidisciplinary team of professionals. Team members often include neonatologists, neonatal nurses, nutritionists and allied professionals.
Kidney diseases can encompass a wide range of conditions including chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), kidney stones, infections, and more. Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) today unveiled an advanced endoscopy tower. The advanced endoscopy tower is a transformative addition to KUTRRH’s medical capabilities. In her remarks during the unveiling ceremony, KUTRRH Board Chairperson noted that the state-of-the-art equipment’s acquisition was made possible by the government through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with valued partners, including Fuji and Science Scope. From her observation, this will enable KUTRRH to offer critical procedures previously limited in availability.

Varicose veins screening camps serve as a model for proactive healthcare initiatives emphasizing the importance of early detection and intervention. Varicose veins are dilated veins that are visible on the skin surface that cause irritation hence hindering effective blood flow that results in venous ulcers. They may seem benign but it is important to treat them and prevent the patient from developing venous ulcers (a wound that does not heal) and deep venous thrombosis (a clot within the deep venous system.)

The Bentall procedure is a type of cardiac surgery involving composite graft replacement of the aortic valve, aortic root, and ascending aorta,with re-implantation of the coronary arteries into the graft. This operation is used to treat the combined disease of the aortic valve and ascending aorta. The aorta is the large blood vessel (artery) that carries blood from the heart through the chest and belly to the rest of the body. The aortic valve, which is at the base of the aorta, lets blood flow from the heart into the aorta. An aneurysm (a bulge in a blood vessel) can change the shape
