KUTRRH has eight (8) theatres that are used to carry out surgical operations in an aseptic environment. The theatres are equipped with the current state of the art equipment and are well-lit. They also feature telemedicine facilities that include cameras, viewing screens and monitors used for educational purposes or for surgical consultations. The operating theatres have additional unique features such as:
• Controlled temperature and humidity.
• An HVAC system to filter the air and maintain a slightly elevated pressure
• Power backups
• Wall suction, oxygen, and other anaesthetic gases.
Out of the 8 theatres, three of these are general theatres which include:
• Accident & Emergency Theatre
• Maternity Theatre
• Laparoscopic Theatre
The remaining 5 offer operational support to the specialist clinics, which include:
• Neurosurgery
• Cardiology
• Ophthalmology
• Kidney transplant
• Ear, nose and throat (ENT)
Other great features of the theatre department include:
• Open heart surgical equipment
• Cathlab for closed cardiovascular surgery
• An endoscopic unit
• A Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD)
