The High-Risk Obstetric & Antenatal Clinic is designed for expectant mothers who require extra care during pregnancy. Patients are referred here from our general filter clinics based on specific criteria.

Our team of specialists provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management throughout pregnancy, delivery, and up to 6 weeks after birth, ensuring both mother and baby receive the best possible care.

  • Schedule: Mondays, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, with ongoing management up to delivery and six weeks postpartum.
  •  Key Terms:o Antenatal: The period before birth; during pregnancy.

    o Postpartum: The period after childbirth.

Criteria for Admission to Specialist Antenatal Clinics (High-Risk & Maternal Care)

Our specialist antenatal clinics provide extra care for expectant mothers who may face higher risks during pregnancy. You may be referred to these clinics if you have any of the following:

General Factors

  •  Age over 40 years
  •  Previous cesarean section more than twice
  •  Four or more previous deliveries, even without complications
  •  Teenage pregnancy
  •  Multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc.)
  • Conceived through IVF or fertility treatments

Medical Conditions During Pregnancy

  •  High blood pressure
  •  Diabetes
  •  Heart disease
  •  Kidney disease
  •  Respiratory illness
  •  Thyroid disorders
  •  Blood clotting problems
  •  Autoimmune disorders
  •  Epilepsy
  •  Cancer
  •  Psychiatric conditions
  •  Obesity or high BMI
  •  Genetic disorders
  • Sexually transmitted infections (including HIV)

Pregnancy & Delivery History

  •  Recurrent miscarriages
  •  Previous preterm birth
  •  History of placenta complications
  •  Previous stillbirth or newborn death
  •  Fibroids in pregnancy
  •  Previous fibroid surgery
  •  Cervical issues (e.g., previous cervical stitch or surgery)
  •  History of excessive bleeding after birth
  •  Previous third- or fourth-degree vaginal tear
  •  History of difficult anesthesia
  •  Previous ICU/HDU care during childbirth

Other Factors

  •  Substance abuse during pregnancy
  •  Domestic or intimate partner violence
  •  Religious reasons (e.g., refusal of blood products)
