KUTRRH’s Role at the Devolution Summit
KUTRRH was honoured to participate in this year’s week-long Devolution Conference 2025, hosted in Homa Bay County. The event, a flagship national platform, brought together leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from all 47 counties to reflect on the progress of devolution, share experiences, and chart new pathways for national development.
The conference was officially opened by H.E. Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, who underscored the importance of strong county–national government collaboration in achieving inclusive growth. The high-level event was also attended by Governors, Senators, County Assembly Speakers, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, development partners, and representatives from diverse sectors across the country.
Showcasing Excellence and Building Partnerships
Representing the Chief Executive Officer, the hospital was ably led by Dr. Caroline Ngugi — Director, Training, Research & Innovation, and Ag. Director, Partnership & Resource Mobilisation. Under her leadership, the delegation showcased the hospital’s broad spectrum of advanced medical services, specialised care units, innovative health technologies, and its unwavering commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centred healthcare to all Kenyans.
Throughout the week, we were actively engaged in various activities ranging from exhibitions, networking sessions, and policy dialogues to interactive forums with stakeholders. The hospital’s exhibition booth was a major attraction, drawing visits from dignitaries, health professionals, and county representatives who expressed keen interest in forging collaborations in specialized healthcare delivery, research, and capacity-building. One of the most remarkable outcomes of the conference was the hospital’s ability to interact with more than 500 clients, stakeholders, and partners from different organisations. These interactions opened doors for new partnerships with county governments, healthcare institutions, academic bodies, and civil society organisations — partnerships that will play a vital role in strengthening healthcare access and equity across the country.
Driving Healthcare Transformation
A major highlight of KUTRRH’s participation was its contribution to the health panel discussions, where two of its distinguished medical consultants served as panelists. Dr. Lilian Mokoh, Consultant Neuro-Otologist Cochlear Implant Surgeon & Head of Surgery, and Dr. Janet Githinji, Consultant Gynaecologist, shared their professional expertise on critical issues affecting healthcare under the devolved system. Their insights added immense value to the dialogue, especially on how counties can leverage partnerships with referral institutions like KUTRRH to bridge gaps in specialised healthcare services.
Beyond the exhibitions and panels, the conference provided a rare platform for direct engagement with county leaders on areas such as medical referrals, training opportunities for healthcare workers, research collaboration, and innovations in healthcare financing. These conversations not only strengthened KUTRRH’s visibility as a national centre of excellence but also reinforced its mandate as a leading institution in Kenya’s journey toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). As the curtain fell on the Devolution Conference 2025, KUTRRH reaffirmed its commitment to driving healthcare transformation through advanced clinical services, cutting-edge research, training of specialised health professionals, and partnerships that leave no Kenyan behind. The lessons, connections, and opportunities drawn from Homa Bay will further accelerate the hospital’s mission of delivering accessible, world-class healthcare for all.
