On 9th November 2022, Health Cabinet Secretary, Susan Nakhumicha visited KUTRRH. The visit was her first tour of duty to the facility since her appointment as Cabinet Secretary.
During the visit she lauded the administration of Kenyatta University Training Referral and Research Hospital for the efforts invested to make the hospital fully operational.
During her tour of the hospital, she had the opportunity to check on various sections of the Hospital and appreciated the existing clinical and research capacity at KUTRRH. From her observations, KUTRRH has the capacity to support other lower-level facilities. She noted the move would ensure that lower-level health facilities would benefit from specialists domiciled at the referral facility and improve workflow by connecting patients to their care.
In respect to digital processes, the CS asked KUTRRH to integrate digital processes in their operations to facilitate interface and integration of remote facilities. While outlining the Ministry of Health focus on harnessing digital healthcare services, the CS urged KUTRRH to provide telehealth and virtual healthcare support to lower-level hospitals in Counties and Sub Counties.
The Cabinet Secretary called on the County governments to set up PET Scans scans at the county-level to benefit from the radiopharmaceuticals produced by the Cyclotron machine.
