Every year in September, pharmacists mark the World Pharmacist Day. This year, the World Pharmacists Day was observed on 25th September 2022 under the theme; “Pharmacy United in Action for a Better Healthier World “.
The theme was aimed at showcasing pharmacy’s positive impact on health around the world and strengthening solidarity in the profession.
Pharmacists play a key role in ensuring a healthier world through clinical pharmacy, promotion of rational medicine use, research, innovation, training and ensuring access to quality, safe, efficacious,and affordable medicines. Beyond that, they are essential in promotion of public health.
Pharmacy practice has been evolving with the provision of pharmaceutical care through clinical pharmacy as part of the services offered by pharmacists.
Clinical Pharmacy is a branch of pharmacy where the practitioners provide pharmaceutical care that optimizes medication therapy and promotes the rational use of drugs. It is a branch of pharmacy that transitions the pharmacist’s role from being product-focused to being patient-focused. It embraces the philosophy of pharmaceutical care and its impact globally through the various pharmacy interventions.
Pharmacists at KUTRRH joined colleagues around the world in marking the day by showcasing the various processes in the Hospital’s Pharmacy department.
They capped the celebrations with a breakfast in honour of the pharmacy staff. It was graced by the KUTRRH CEO, Mr. Ahmed Dagane, Deputy Director Clinical Services, Dr Onyimbo Kerama, HOD Pharmacy- Dr Anthony Kamau, Director Training Research & Innovation- Prof. Wangari Mwai, Director Nursing Services (DNS)- Jackline Tindi, Deputy Director Training and Capacity Building- Dr John Nyambega, HOD- A&E, Radiology, Oncology, Procurement staff and representatives from AstraZeneca and Philips Therapeutics.
They highly commended the pharmacy team for the role they play and for effectively handling challenges faced innovatively.
In his remarks, KUTRRH CEO, Mr. Ahmed Dagane thanked partners from AstraZeneca and Philips Therapeutics for their continued support. He noted that the hospital was keen on maintaining and improving on quality of pharmacy services. He further disclosed that KUTRRH is keen on commencing manufacturing of medical supplies as is the case in other progressive facilities globally.
