Potassium is a mineral that is found mostly in all foods. Some of the function of potassium in the body are:

  • It helps to balance fluids and minerals in the body.
  • It helps to maintain a normal blood pressure.
  • It helps the muscles contract and the nerves to function

Excess potassium is excreted from the body by the kidneys. Therefore, people with kidney disease need to monitor their dietary intake of potassium.
