WORLD CANCER DAY 2026
KUTRRH marked World Cancer Day under the theme “United by Unique,” bringing together patients, caregivers, healthcare workers, government representatives, partners, and sponsors in a unified call to strengthen cancer prevention, early detection, and access to high-quality care.
Representing the CEO, Dr. Caroline Ngugi, Director of Training, Research and Innovation, reaffirmed KUTRRH’s unwavering commitment to patient centred care. She highlighted the hospital’s investments in advanced technology, community outreach, research, and training key pillars in improving cancer outcomes and ensuring that every patient receives compassionate, evidence-based care.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Gladwell Gathecha, Head of Cancer and Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health, speaking on behalf of the Director General for Health, underscored the magnitude of the national cancer burden. He reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding prevention and screening programmes, strengthening research and digital health innovations, and enhancing financial protection to promote equitable access to cancer services across the country.
Dr. Abeid Athman, Head of Oncology, emphasized the life-saving impact of routine cancer screening and early diagnosis. He encouraged the public to take proactive steps in understanding their risk, seeking timely medical attention, and supporting loved ones undergoing treatment.
This year’s commemoration was attended by key partners and sponsors, including The Max Foundation, Stima Sacco Society Limited, International Medical Aid – IMA, Absa Bank Kenya, Zamara, Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations-KENCO, Faraja Cancer Support Trust ,Kenya Medical Research Institute, National Cancer Control Program Kenya, National Cancer Institute of Kenya and The Ministry of Health.
