KUTRRH Operationalise Over 30 Specialised Clinics.

NAIROBI, KENYA, 3rd NOVEMBER 2020- The Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) has today officially launched the Centre for Specialised Clinics (CSC). The occasion was graced by Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ms. Susan Mochache.

One of the major goals for KUTRRH is to provide specialised medical care, medical training and research in one facility within Kenya and beyond. It is with this vision that the CSC has been established; to offer the most comprehensive specialised care for adults and children in the region.

The over 30 specialised clinics that have been operationalised are:

Paediatrics and Child Health Clinics

We are committed to improving the quality of life for every child who comes to the Hospital. Our skilled Paediatric and Child health specialists, coupled with a child-friendly environment, helps us to deliver excellent outcomes for children of all ages and their families. The specialist services are patient-centred in where each child gets age-appropriate individualised care.

Our specialised pediatric clinics include:

  • Ear, Nose & Throat

  • Paediatric Surgery

Surgical Outpatient Clinics (SOPC)

SOPCs handle the patients who have undergone surgery within the Hospital and post-surgery referrals from other facilities.

The SOPC has:

  • General Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery
  • Cardiothoracic
  • Paediatric surgery specialists

Oncology Specialised Clinics

These clinics handle patients who need chemotherapy or radiotherapy for various types of cancers. These include:

  • Breast cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Blood cancer
  • Rectal cancers

A multidisciplinary team of Radio-Oncologists, Hemo-oncologists, Medical Oncologists, pharmacists, radiographers, medical physicists, palliative counsellors, are always on hand to provide high-quality holistic patient care.

Medical Outpatient Clinics (MOPC)

These clinics handle medical patients with conditions like diabetes, hypertension, endocrine disorders, renal, gastrointestinal, among other medical conditions. Physicians, Nephrologists, and endocrinologists man these clinics.

Comprehensive Care Clinics (CCC)

CCC is our robust HIV/AIDS care for patients who have tested positive in the facility during routine HIV testing, and those referred from other facilities. Our pharmacy stocks quality HIV drugs and upholds the utmost Confidentiality of the patients. The variety of specialists’ available means that any other complications or opportunistic infections that may arise during treatment are effectively addressed.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

This clinic addresses women health issues such as fertility, pregnancy and birth, and other gynaecological concerns to help them achieve optimal health. The services are provided by a qualified team of obstetrician/gynaecologists who employ innovative procedures and state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment.

Dental Services

KUTRRH is focused on offering the highest quality of dental healthcare services facilitated by our highly trained team of dentists, dental specialists and oral hygiene care providers. Some of the services to be provided include:

  • Prosthetics (bridges, crowns and dentures)

Ophthalmology

Our clinical eye specialists diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions from routine eye examination to surgery. Our services include:

  • Glaucoma treatment and surgery
  • Cataract and intraocular lens implants
  • A wide range of eye evaluations.

Cardiology

Our Cardiology Centre boasts a clinic and a CathLab. The services offered here include:

  • Stress Tests
  • Holter Monitor
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring

We also boast a state-of-the-art Catheterisation Laboratory which provides catheterisation to complex interventional procedures. The centre is operated by qualified Cardiologists, Interventional Cardiologists among other staff.

ENT Services

The ENT clinic is staffed by highly qualified and Board Accredited ENT Surgeons. They treat new-borns to elderly patients with a broad spectrum of diseases ranging from major head and neck procedures to ear microsurgery.

Executive VIP Clinics

The clinic panders to the needs of those who prefer exclusive, quick and quality healthcare, usually on appointment at a fraction of the cost of other facilities offering the same level of care. Confidentiality of patients and quick turnaround time is at the core of our service.

What the CSC means for Kenyans

As part of the hospital mandate in achieving the goal of Universal Health Coverage, KUTRRH is looking at the transition to post COVID by opening other additional referral services, including specialised outpatient clinics.

Patients accessing these clinics are attended to by highly specialised consultants on a referral basis. Moreover, patients have access to follow up care through the clinics. This means that Kenyans no longer need to travel abroad to access specialised healthcare. Kenyans also get to enjoy quality care, at a reasonable cost directly from home.
