As part of its ongoing commitment to championing cancer awareness and equitable healthcare, Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) recently hosted a high-impact Breast Cancer Symposium at its main auditorium. The one-day event, held during #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, brought together a diverse group of cancer specialists, researchers, policymakers, and academicians from across Kenya and beyond.

Opening Remarks by KUTRRH CEO

The symposium was officially opened by Dr. Zeinab Gura, CEO of KUTRRH, who delivered a powerful keynote address. In her remarks, Dr. Gura emphasized the urgent need for equitable access to precision breast cancer management across all counties. She called on stakeholders to:

  • Strengthen diagnostic capacities
  • Empower healthcare workers
  • Bridge treatment disparities

She reaffirmed KUTRRH’s commitment to patient-centered care, innovation, and sustainable health partnerships, stating:

“Precision medicine represents hope, but only through collective action can that hope be realized for every patient.”

Call for Early Screening and Inclusive Awareness

Also present was Dr. Abeid Athman, Head of Oncology at KUTRRH, who led discussions on the critical importance of early screening and diagnosis. He highlighted that breast cancer affects both women and men, urging men to also take proactive steps in monitoring their breast health.

Collaboration for Impact

The symposium, supported by partners including AstraZeneca, marked a significant milestone in Kenya’s journey toward improved cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research. Through shared expertise and collaboration, the event underscored the power of innovation and knowledge exchange in transforming cancer care.

Together, We Create Hope Through Action

KUTRRH continues to lead in awareness, advocacy, and action. As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we reaffirm our dedication to early detection, equitable access, and quality care for all.
