The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) approved KUTRRH clinical trial titled: A randomized control trial comparing convalescent plasma therapy plus standard treatment versus standard treatment alone in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia at a tertiary hospital.
What is Convalescent Plasma Therapy?
Blood plasma is a yellowish liquid that makes up about half your blood volume. After a virus, your plasma contains antibodies that help fight infection. A transfusion of plasma from someone who has recovered from coronavirus may help people who are still ill.
Why Should I Donate?
Plasma from patients who have recently recovered from viral illnesses like Ebola, SARS, MERS, Covid-19, among others has been used to treat patients with severe diseases with promising results safely. Having no proven treatment yet, we are using this plasma to help patients with severe Covid-19 to fight the infection in a clinical trial at KUTRRH.
Your body quickly replaces the antibodies and plasma you donate. As such one can regularly donable blood regularly to potentially help more people.
