Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) marked this year’s International Housekeeping Week with a vibrant and heartfelt celebration dedicated to appreciating the unsung heroes who ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The event brought together housekeeping staff, supervisors, hospital administrators, and healthcare workers to recognize the essential role housekeeping professionals play in the smooth operation of the hospital. This year’s theme was “Cleanliness for wellbeing” Housekeeping in healthcare facilities is much more than just cleaning; it is a critical part of infection control and maintaining a hygienic environment that supports patient recovery. At KUTRRH, housekeeping
staff are on the frontline in preventing the spread of infections, ensuring that every corner of the hospital from patient rooms to operating theatres, is sanitized and well-maintained.
Housekeeping teams ensure the hospital remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone. They work behind the scenes to meet the stringent standards required in healthcare settings. During the celebration, Ag. Director of Nursing Services Ms. Jackline Tindi emphasized how essential their work is in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and improving patient outcomes.
Activities and Awards The week-long celebration was filled with engaging activities aimed at recognizing the efforts of the housekeeping staff.
These included:
•Training workshops on new cleaning technologies and infection prevention techniques.
•Team-building activities to foster unity and boost morale among staff.
•Appreciation awards were presented to outstanding housekeeping staff who have gone above and beyond in their duties.
During the celebration the Hospital’s management took the opportunity to express their deep appreciation for the often-overlooked efforts of the housekeeping team.The Acting Director of Administration and Corporate Services, Mr. Isaac Kamau expressed his sincere gratitude to the housekeeping team and promised the management’s unwavering support in their day-today activities.The Acting Director of Nursing Services, Ms Jackline Tindih exalted the team as warriors against disease-causing pathogens and champions in public health when it comes to making the hospital a suitable environment for patients and guests.
The climax of the event filled with smiles, laughter and a renewed sense of pride among the staff ended with a colorful luncheon, where housekeeping staff mingled with hospital administrators and healthcare providers in an informal and festive atmosphere. Moving forward KUTRRH aims to continue investing in the development and welfare of its housekeeping staff by offering them training opportunities, more favorable working conditions and continued recognition of their invaluable contributions to the hospital. By doing so, the hospital reaffirms its commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and patient safety.
